Enhance Food Security

Advocate_FoodSecurity_smAnnually in San Luis Obispo County, approximately 44,000 individuals (1 in 6 residents) are considered “food insecure.” Low-income residents struggle to purchase sufficient food and often resort to inexpensive foods that are overly processed and high in sugar and fat. Being food insecure doesn’t necessarily mean being hungry: sometimes it means being malnourished.
But GleanSLO—a program of the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County—is trying to change that! We rescue excess produce from neighborhoods, farms, and farmers’ markets around the county to share with our neighbors in need. We seek to create a community culture that utilizes healthy, locally-grown food to sustain the needs of ALL people in our county!
Take Action: Learn how to get involved by visiting the GleanSLO.org website. Let the sharing begin!
